Wrap up your holiday season and say goodbye to your tree at Mulchfest, a NYC Parks tradition running from Dec. 26 to Jan. 12, 2025.

The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation kicked of Mulchfest on Thursday, where you can recycle your Christmas tree at 24 Brooklyn locations.

There were over 46,500 trees recycled in the city last year, according to NYC Parks website.

In Brooklyn, you can drop off your tree at several points in Brooklyn Bridge Park and Prospect Park, as well as Herbert Von King Park in Bedford Stuyvesant, Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick and in Marine Park. Residents can pick up chips at some locations.

Remember to remove all lights, ornaments and netting before bringing the tree to a Mulchfest site, the department said.

On Jan. 11 and Jan. 12, 2025, the Parks Department will also conduct a Chipping Weekend, where the city will chip your tree and give you your very own bag of mulch to use in your backyard or to make a winter bed for a street tree.
