The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music saw a surge in rehearsal space bookings after the organization reduced rental rates to $10-$15 per hour in August, thanks to a $50,000 gift from Love, Tito’s, the philanthropic arm of Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

BKCM, a hub for emerging and professional musicians in Park Slope, reported a 22% increase in bookings from August through November of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, according to a press release.

“We’re so fortunate and thankful to have this support from Tito’s towards our ever-growing Studio Collective,” said Chad Copper, the executive director of the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. “I’m always in awe of the thousands of musicians who step into this space, taking time out of their day to find a home for their musical talents at the Conservatory. It’s this kind of affordable programming that helps our organization remain a community and citywide asset beloved by all.”

Jillian Kumor, senior sales coordinator at Tito’s Handmade Vodka, emphasized the importance of making music resources accessible.

“We’re thrilled to support the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music’s Studio Collective initiative. Music has the power to inspire, uplift and bring people together," she said. "With a longstanding commitment to supporting the arts, we’re excited to be part of a program that makes resources more accessible for artists across the city."

Since its launch, the Studio Collective has welcomed over 2,200 artists from more than 350 zip codes. Members pursue diverse musical endeavors, including piano, voice and songwriting. Some members, such as tenor saxophonist Dave Anderson, dedicate hundreds of hours to honing their craft.

“Currently, I'm doing daily exercises to improve my tenor sax altissimo range, and my accuracy and time, especially at faster tempos,” said Anderson. “I find myself coming to BKCM more often with the discount, and the more I practice, the more my music benefits from it.”

Reykwaan Adorno, one of the artists utilizing the facility, said he's been coming in more regularly since the the price shift.

“I love the environment at the Conservatory. It’s beneficial to be in an environment where everyone is very goal oriented—that's the vibe I get when I'm here. I'm just studying at this point," said Adorno. "I have a voice teacher that I see pretty regularly. I'm working on my technique and refining some things, getting ready for auditions. I'm here a lot more than I planned before the price shift, so it's definitely been beneficial for me. It’s amazing, I’m very grateful for it.”
