The Farragut Stakeholders Group hosted their first women's 'Herstory' champagne brunch on Saturday, March 23 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, an event that was attended by more than 165 women from the Farragut Houses as well as their guests.
Actress and comedian Mugga served as the MC and moderator of the "Women Building Brooklyn" panel. Panellists included Dr. Jocelynne Rainey, CEO of Brooklyn Org; Judge Sharen Hudson, Civil Court Judge; Marvina Robinson, CEO of B. Stuyvesant Champagne; and C. Zawadi Morris, CEO of BK Reader.
Several elected officials attended the event, including Attorney General Letitia James, Congresswoman Nydia Velȧzquez, Assemblywoman Jo Anne Simon, and Chief Advisor to Mayor Eric Adams, Ingrid Lewis-Martin.
"The panel of powerful women who are building Brooklyn inspired the women of our community, which consisted of mothers, daughters, grandmothers, and girlfriends who all came together in respect and love," said Latrel Mosso, leader of the Farragut Stakeholders.
After the panel, the crowd enjoyed performances by Beareather Reddy and her female blues and jazz band, and dancing with DJ Madam Maj, who is a Farragut resident. There was a champagne tasting, a photo booth station along the purple carpet, raffle prizes and goody bags for all of the attendees.
“The Women's Herstory Champagne Brunch gave women of all ages the opportunity to socialize and network in a safe, supportive and uplifting environment,” said Farragut Stakeholder Debra McBeth.
The Farragut Stakeholders have received funding to provide programming for their residents over the next three years. They are also running several 10-week programs, including a basketball and mentoring program for youth, a health and fitness program for adults, and a boxing program for young adults.
