The Brooklyn Children’s Museum (BCM) appointed Michael G. Williams as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

BCM said Williams, a native New Yorker, boasts over a decade of experience in educational and nonprofit leadership and brings a commitment to community-centered initiatives and a focus on operational excellence, according to a press release.

The institution lauded him as a leader who has championed safe, inclusive and engaging environments for children and families throughout his career.

His past experience includes managing director of Operations and Growth at KIPP NYC, overseeing 19 schools and supporting over 9,000 students citywide. At KIPP, he enhanced school safety, improved attendance and streamlined daily operations, while leading Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) initiatives to promote equity in education.

“I am honored to join the leadership team at Brooklyn Children’s Museum and look forward to working alongside BCM’s President and CEO Atiba Edwards and our dedicated Board of Trustees to ensure this historic institution continues to thrive through its second century of life. As a child of New York myself, I am thrilled to now be serving our newest young New Yorkers in this great borough and city," Williams said.

Williams’s leadership background also includes roles at 1199SEIU’s Child Care Funds, where he developed youth programs focused on college access, healthcare exploration and academic support for union members’ children. He holds advanced degrees in Urban Policy Analysis from The New School and in Educational Leadership from The Broad Center for the Management of School Systems.

“I am thrilled to welcome Michael to Brooklyn Children’s Museum. He has dedicated his career and expertise in institutional management to ensuring equity of opportunity for all children and communities, which is what drives so much of our work here at the Museum,” said Atiba T. Edwards, BCM President and Chief Executive Officer.
