About 75 volunteers, joined by Brooklyn Nets legend Albert King and Borough President Eric Adams, came together to help with mulching, planting and weeding in Fort Greene Park.
On Friday, National Grid gathered employee volunteers who joined the Fort Greene Park Conservancy and the Brooklyn Nets to help spruce up Fort Greene Park in celebration of Earth Day.
About 75 volunteers were not afraid to get their hands dirty to help with mulching, planting and weeding. Lending a helping hand were also Borough President Eric Adams, Brooklyn Nets legend Albert King, Ken Daly, COO of National Grid US Electric, as well as David Barker, director of Fort Greene Park, who kicked off National Grid's annual Earth Day celebration.
Each year, Earth Day—April 22—marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement. Since it's inaugural celebration in 1970, the movement has grown to more than one billion people in 192 countries around the world. Earth Day has become the largest secular observance in the world, a day of action that changes human behavior and provokes policy changes -- just like in Fort Greene this past weekend.
