Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights residents living in the neighborhoodsâ 36th District have a new resource guide highlighting local services released Wednesday by outgoing Councilmember Robert Cornegy.
The 105-page document, available here, has information on leading arts and cultural organizations, resources for small businesses, a cure violence resource guide, information on houses of worship, resources for seniors and the LGBTQ+ community, and information on local mental health services.
Cornegy said the guide was the result of faith in the community and came from his desire to help local residents accomplish their goals, âwhether that be running a successful business, being a caring grandparent or finding support for mental health challenges.â
Cornegy will be leaving his post as City Council member for the district on Dec. 31 after eight years in office. He will be succeeded by Councilmember-elect Chi Osse.
Cornegy said the district had experienced âunacceptable difficulties and has created some of the most amazing accomplishments that humans are capable of.â
âWe have shown that we can change the narrative, that we can rise above systematic racism and create the most beautiful art, culture, spirituality, and entrepreneurship on the planet.â
He said the resource guide would help locals connect with the people and institutions around them, adding that he was confident to know the community was in good hands â" its own.
