Governor Kathy Hochul launched the application period for the second annual Empire State Service Corps Program, offering 500 paid civic and service internships for State University of New York (SUNY) students this fall.
The program, which received more than 2,000 applications in its inaugural year, aims to expand civic engagement and provide students with hands-on community service experience, according to a press release.
SUNY students can apply by the April 18 priority deadline.
“The Empire State Service Corps is providing SUNY students with invaluable opportunities to serve their communities, gain hands-on experience and build a foundation for future success,” said Hochul. “By expanding civic engagement across New York, we are empowering the next generation of leaders to make a meaningful impact. I encourage all eligible students to apply and be part of this transformative program.”
Service areas include civic engagement, early childhood education, FAFSA assistance, food insecurity, K-12 education support, peer mental health advocacy, student success coaching, sustainability and veterans affairs outreach.
SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. praised the program’s impact.
“The Empire State Service Corps program has been a phenomenal tool to address the most pressing needs of New Yorkers across the state while providing students with paid internships to serve their communities," he said.
