New York City Housing Authority's (NYCHA) Office of Resident Economic Empowerment & Sustainability (REES) announces a first-time homebuyer education workshop series around the five boroughs kicking off today, Thursday, August 13, through December 3, 2015.

Seven workshops will be hosted in conjunction with local partners who offer free and low-cost HUD-certified homebuyer education workshops, homeownership counseling, and foreclosure prevention services. Borough-specific workshops are open to residents citywide.

Participants will gain skills on qualifying for a mortgage; working with a realtor, lawyer and home inspector; and budgeting and managing expenses in preparation to buy a home. The workshops form part of a greater homeownership initiative REES launched in 2015.

Workshops in Central Brooklyn include:

"NACA Mortgage & Homebuyer Workshop"—FREE

When: Thursday, Aug. 13 — 6pm — 8:30 pm

"Are You Ready to Buy a Home?"—FREE 

When: Wednesday, Sept. 23 — 6pm - 8pm

Partner: Bridge Street Development Corporation

Where: Van Dyke Community Center, 392 Blake Ave, Brooklyn

"How to Improve Your Credit Score"—FREE

When: Wednesday, October 28 — 6pm -8pm

Partner: Mortgage Readiness Clinic

"First Time Home Buying Series"—$50 COURSE FEE
