Spend April 8 at Green-Wood Cemetery for a giant viewing party to witness the last partial solar eclipse until 2044. This free event is expected to draw thousands of New Yorkers to view this awe-inspiring celestial alignment.

The free viewing party will be held in Green-Wood’s Meadow, located at the Cemetery’s Main Entrance and at the Historic Chapel. The event begins at 1:30 pm with the partial eclipse beginning at approximately 2:10 pm, reaching maximum eclipse at 3:25 pm and ending at 4:35 pm. There will activities throughout the afternoon, including eclipse-watching through telescopes with amateur astronomers thanks to the Amateur Astronomers Association.

For several minutes, the moon, at 1/400th the size of the sun, will cast its shadow, dimming the magnificent power of our closest star. New York City will observe 90 percent obstruction, weather permitting. This will be the last partial solar eclipse that is visible from the contiguous United States until 2044. The phenomenon comes around only once every few decades.
