The Green-Wood Cemetery, in collaboration with Printique, launched a photography contest, “A Moment in Time,” inviting both novice and expert photographers to capture the wonder of exploring the beauty, history and vibrant life within the cemetery.

Participants are encouraged to submit images that showcase their perspectives of the landmark and community green space, whether it’s a striking monument, a bird frozen mid-flight, a concert in the Catacombs, or the serene beauty of a stroll through the cemetery, according to a press release.

“We’re excited to see how our visitors capture the essence of Green-Wood,” said Harry J. Weil, vice president of Education and Programming at Green-Wood Cemetery. “This photo contest and exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to showcase what the nearly half million people who step through our gates love about the cemetery.”

Selected images will be printed by Printique and prominently displayed along Green-Wood’s fence this fall, offering the community an outdoor exhibition that celebrates the historic landmark.

“At Printique, we believe in the power of photography to tell stories and preserve memories,” said Gabrielle Grace, social media manager at Printique.

The contest runs through August 30, 2024, ending at 11:59pm PST. A panel of staff members from Green-Wood and Printique will select ten winning photographs. Winners will be notified via email after August 30, 2024.

Submission Guidelines:

  • One submission per person.
  • Only photos of Green-Wood will be selected.
  • AI-generated submissions are not allowed.
  • You must be a resident of the Greater New York City area.
