Gowanus Open Studios, Brooklyn’s largest celebration of local art, is back for its 28th year, set to take place on Oct. 19 - 20.

Hosted by the nonprofit Arts Gowanus, the annual event will feature hundreds of artists opening their studio doors to the public, offering a glimpse into the creative spaces of the vibrant Gowanus neighborhood, according to a press release.

Spanning from Pacific Street to 19th Street and Smith Street to 5th Avenue, Gowanus Open Studios will allow visitors to explore former factories, warehouses and studio buildings where artists will be on hand to discuss their work and share their creative processes. The event is an intimate look into the neighborhood’s booming arts scene, home to galleries, cultural centers and hundreds of independent artists.

Attendees will receive free access to hundreds of private studios and venues, with over 8,000 printed maps distributed throughout the area to help guide them. A digital map and artist directory are also available at artsgowanus.org.

Highlights of the weekend include extended hours at TI Art Studios, performances and a closing party at Tappeto Volante Gallery on Sunday evening. In addition to local art, the weekend will feature community-driven events, including Van Alen Institute's Fall Fest and the Gowanus Canal Conservancy's annual Open House.

Arts Gowanus will also offer tours of seven murals created by artists in the neighborhood.
