New York City Comptroller and Park Slope resident Brad Lander announced on Tuesday that he will run in the 2025 Democratic primary for mayor.

A long-time progressive, Lander launched an official campaign website and video today, noting that city leadership has failed "the basic tests of the job."

“Why does a city that means so much to so many have leadership that delivers so little for so few?” Lander said in a campaign video. In a dig toward current City Hall officials, Lander said city leaders needs to be honest, keep New Yorkers safe and make sure children are learning.

Lander was elected to the City Council in 2009, and served the Brooklyn neighborhoods that included, among others, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Park Slope and Windsor Terrace. He became the city Comptroller in 2022.

"It’s time for strong, experienced leadership to deliver a safer, more affordable, more livable, and better-run city for all New Yorkers," his website said.

Former city Comptroller Scott Stringer and state Senator Zellnor Myrie have begun fundraising for mayoral bids as well.
