The New York Working Families Party endorsed a slate of candidates for New York City mayor on Saturday.
The party said candidates Adrienne Adams, Brad Lander, Zohran Mamdani and Zellnor Myrie will all stand up for working families, according to a press release.
“Each of their campaigns has the ability to wage a serious fight in this race," said Ana María Archila and Jasmine Gripper, co-directors of the New York Working Families Party. "NYWFP is committed to making sure that working class New Yorkers, not the rich and well-connected, are the winners of this election."
The party endorsed the candidates for the following reasons:
-
Adrienne Adams: Current New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams is a public servant, mother, grandmother and a lifelong resident of Queens. She is running on a message of no drama, no nonsense – just competence and integrity.
-
Brad Lander: Current New York City Comptroller Brad Lander is a big-hearted, tough-minded citywide leader who’s devoted his life to fighting for New York City — and has a record of results to prove it.
-
Zohran Mamdani: Born in Uganda and raised in New York City, New York State Assemblymember has fought for the working class in and outside the legislature and is running for mayor to lower the cost of living for working class New Yorkers.
-
Zellnor Myrie: New York State Senator Zellnor Myrie is one of New York’s most respected legislators and a fierce champion on issues ranging from gun safety and criminal justice to voting rights and abortion rights to health care and affordable housing.
The endorsement marks the first step in the party's two-step endorsement process. In the coming months, the party will propose a candidate that New York City voters should rank first and work to consolidate political support around its slate of candidates.
"New Yorkers deserve a mayor who will lead with integrity and work every single day to make life better for working families," Archila and Gripper said. "The candidates in our slate hail from different corners of the city and different political communities, but they have a lot in common: they each have a record of fighting for working families, a vision to make New York City safe and affordable for all, and the courage to stand up to [President Donald] Trump.”
