A Brooklyn man who was a member of the East Flatbush-based Martense Beverly Bosses gang has been sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison for murdering a rival gang member back in 2017, District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced this week.

Gymanni Carrington, a 22-year-old resident of Crown Heights, received 15 years to life in prison plus a term of 12-to-24 years in prison — to run concurrently — by Brooklyn Supreme Justice Dineen Riviezzo.

Carrington’s sentence comes following multiple convictions, which he incurred on June 26 of this year, including second-degree murder, second-degree conspiracy, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree conspiracy.

According to the district attorney, the incident took place on Sept. 16, 2017, at approximately 4:25am.

During that morning, Gonzalez said that Carrington fired gunshots at 20-year-old Donavan Frazier as he was leaving Franklin’s Finest Deli in Crown Heights.

According to the investigation, Carrington fired a total of six shots from a .40 caliber handgun into the deli, hitting Frazier once. The bullet reportedly entered Frazier’s upper arm and reentered his torso, perforating his lungs and major blood vessels, which ultimately caused his death.

It is alleged that Frazier was a part of the Lincoln Fam gang, which reportedly rivaled the Martense Beverly Bosses gang.

According to evidence, Carrington’s murderous actions during that morning were caught on surveillance video. Carrington also claimed credit for the murder in calls (recorded by the New York City Department of Corrections), social media posts and emails to his mother.

Carrington, along with other members of the Martense Beverly Bosses gang, were all indicted on June 18, 2018, after a lengthy investigation. Among the various charges, the gang members faced included conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to possess weapons, and other charges in connection with eight separate shootings.

According to evidence, between 2016 and 2018, Carrington reportedly had conversations with incarcerated gang members and discussed shootings and other acts of violence between their gang and rival groups.

Additionally, the district attorney says that evidence indicated that Carrington had discussed with his fellow members about procuring and possessing firearms to “further their goals of committing acts of violence against their rivals.”

“Today’s sentencing is the final disposition of a takedown of a gang that operated in Brooklyn with reckless disregard for life while hunting and shooting rivals,” said Gonzalez. “This defendant will now spend many years in prison for his callous actions that took the life of a young man and endangered many others.”
