Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso on Feb. 20 allocated $132,000 in discretionary funding for Fiscal Year 2025 to support 83 New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Tenant Associations across the borough.
The funding, designated for general programming support, will assist with initiatives such as family days, backpack giveaways and other community events for NYCHA residents. Each active Brooklyn NYCHA tenant association received up to $3,000, with allocations based on development population, according to a press release.
“NYCHA Tenant Associations are the lifeline of community at NYCHA developments. Our TA presidents organize incredible programming that supports residents and builds community, more often than not with very little funding," said Reynoso.
The announcement was made at an appreciation breakfast for TA presidents at Brooklyn Borough Hall and marks an increase in Reynoso’s funding support from $108,000 allocated in the 2024 fiscal year to 69 NYCHA TAs. This year’s funding includes an additional $24,000 and expands support to 14 more tenant associations.
NYCHA Brooklyn West Regional TA Tyree Stanback commended Reynoso's office for working for the betterment of the community.
“Your support and generosity have been truly inspirational, fostering inclusivity and providing meaningful support for us and our families," said Stanback. "You and your office have exemplified true leadership, working tirelessly to ensure that we are all represented—because together, we are one Brooklyn!”
