New York City's Mass Transit Authority has launched an app to assist essential workers who work late hours and early mornings get to and from work.
Subway service has ceased in some sections for intense cleaning measures to trains and stations as a measure to protect riders. And while the MTA has increased its overnight bus service to accommodate subway riders, around 11,000 still rely on late-night trains.
So, for those who essential workers who rely on the MTA system to get around between the hours of 1:00am and 2:00pm, The "Essential Connector" will provide a free car ride if their commute takes more than an hour and 20 minutes; is more than half a mile to walk; or requires two transfers.
"These are immensely challenging times, but I'm proud of our team for moving so quickly to build a user-friendly app that delivers for New Yorkers who rely on mass transit in the overnight hours," NYC Transit Interim President Sarah Feinberg said.
