Sen. Gillibrand and Charles Blow to Head 1st Social Change Conference

The two-day 'Brooklyn Conference,' presented by the Brooklyn Museum, boasts a full program of talks and workshops with political leaders, social activists and artists

The Brooklyn Museum presents The Brooklyn Conference: Inspiring Social Change, a thought-provoking gathering of artists, leaders and innovators to explore the intersections of art and social change through talks, workshops, film screenings and presentations on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21.

The two-day inaugural conference will boast a full program of workshops and keynotes from luminaries including Senator Kirsten Gillibrand; Director of Political Engagement at the New York Immigration Coalition Murad Awawdeh; journalist Charles Blow; media entrepreneur and Girlgaze founder Amanda de Cadenet; former President Barack Obama's special assistant for Native American affairs Jodi Archambault Gillette; artist Ebony Noelle Golden; CNN political commentator Sally Kohn; Women's March on Washington co-founders Bob Bland and Linda Sarsour; poet Claudia Rankine; Open Society Foundations's Alvin Starks; and artist Hank Willis Thomas and many more.

"We are excited to see what happens when cultural figures are in conversation with political and social change advocates through our first ever Brooklyn Conference," said Anne Pasternak, Shelby White and Leon Levy Director of the Brooklyn Museum.

The Brooklyn Conference's workshops will include The Resistance Arrival: A Restoration of Force presented by organizers from the Women's March on Washington; a Protest Poster Making workshop hosted by Amplifier, during which attendees will create their own silkscreened posters that will be uploaded to a database of protest materials for all to use; Mirror/Echo/Tilt, a performance workshop led by Shaun Leonardo; as well as free art and social workshops for teens including one hosted by the digital media company #girlgaze which promotes and highlights the work of young female creatives.
