The Bishop Gallery is a contemporary art gallery located in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
Launched in 2012 by Erwin John and Stevenson Dunn, Jr., the Bishop Gallery provides emerging and established artists with a platform to connect with a global audience and the historic Brooklyn art scene.
By embracing varying cultures, genres, and means of artistic expression, the gallery has forged lasting relationships with their artists and its surrounding communities.
The Bishop Gallery strategically uses art as a catalyst for bringing together communities and inciting conversations of change and development.
"Our main pillars are accessibility for the artists and for the community; it's foundational for us," said John. "We wanted to take part in being able to control the narratives and preserve our own culture, and who else better to do that than someone from our own community."
The Bishop Gallery has locations in Brooklyn and Baltimore, and for the past decade has produced a plethora of exhibitions along with exhibiting hundreds of artists from around the globe.
"There's something about telling your own story in your own voice, there's no substituting that," said Dunn, Jr.
