Spike Lee's classic 1998 American sports drama unfolds when Jake Shuttlesworth (Denzel Washington), a convicted murdere and father of the top-ranked basketball prospect (Ray Allen) in the country, is released for a week by the state's governor (Ned Beatty) to persuade his son to play for the governor's alma mater, in exchange for a much reduced prison sentence. This powerful film is the third of four film collaborations between Washington and Lee.
