The Billie Holiday Theatre will close out its 2024 programming with a performance by Kennedy Administration as part of its BILLIE & BEYOND music series.
The event, scheduled for Friday, Dec. 13, at 8:00pm, promises an evening of jazz, R&B, hip-hop and holiday classics, according to a press release.
Launched in October, the BILLIE & BEYOND series celebrates the legacy of Billie Holiday while spotlighting a new generation of female artists across diverse musical genres. Co-curated by journalist and producer Bonsu Thompson, the series has become a hallmark of The Billie’s 2024-25 season under Executive Director Shadawn Smith.
“When we launched BILLIE & BEYOND in October, we received such an amazing response from our audience and it was clear to me, at that point, that this series will become a staple for our patrons and a home for local artists to use as a springboard for their careers," said Smith.
Kennedy Administration, led by vocalist Kennedy and keyboardist Ondre J., will perform original songs alongside reimagined Billie Holiday hits and holiday-themed classics. Known for their genre-defying sound, the ensemble brings together jazz, funk and groove for a truly immersive musical experience.
“To carry on the immense power and majesty of Billie Holiday through song is an honor! I’m excited for the opportunity to bring the artistry of Kennedy Administration and Billie Holiday together,” said Kennedy.
Kennedy Administration, a staple of the New York City music scene, has gained global recognition since their formation in 2015. The band has performed at venues worldwide, including the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, and opened for Elton John in 2018. Their latest album, Second Term, was released earlier this year, and the group is currently working on new material.
The evening will also feature a set by DJ Nyla, as well as light bites and cocktails, creating a multisensory celebration of music and community.
The BILLIE & BEYOND series will resume in spring 2025 with performances scheduled for February and April, the latter coinciding with Billie Holiday’s birthday month.
