Celebrate the best of Brooklyn at MoCADA's 5th Annual Soul of Brooklyn Festival, featuring live music, arts workshops, performances, shopping, and film screenings throughout the borough! MoCADA's Soul of Brooklyn initiative is dedicated to branding the borough as a destination for a unique African Diaspora experience.
Each year, programming consists of a series of Block Parties throughout the borough, and the now highly anticipated Soul of Brooklyn Week summer festival. By transforming local businesses and public spaces into destinations for groundbreaking art and music, the initiative increases the visibility and economic sustainability of African Diaspora culture and businesses in the borough.
Neighborhoods in Brooklyn are gentrifying rapidly, and as a result, many long-time residents, locally owned shops, and arts organizations are being displaced. The heart of the mission of the Soul of Brooklyn is to preserve, celebrate and inspire in the midst of these changes.
MoCADA's annual series brings art activations in the form of concerts, film screenings, workshops and visual art directly into local owned businesses and public spaces, creating new sites for artistic engagement. The series has featured some of today's most groundbreaking artists, including Shabazz Palaces, THEESatisfaction, Blitz the Ambassador, Pegasus Warning, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, and many more.
