Tickets for the 17th Bushwick Film Festival, set to run from Oct. 16-20, are on sale.

The festival will showcase nearly 100 films, selected from close to 1,000 submissions, according to a press release.

This year's submissions, which totaled near pre-pandemic levels, cover a variety of genres, including comedies, dramas, explorations of technology and thrillers. Running under the theme, Producing The Dream, the films will focus on themes of resilience, interconnectedness, and the ways in which people shape one another’s paths, the press release said.

The annual event showcases underrepresented filmmakers while simultaneously celebrating Brooklyn's talent. The festival will feature film screenings, industry events, and performances by various artists and is sponsored by Netflix, Spectrum, Broadway Stages, Brooklyn Coop, and hotel partner Moxy Williamsburg.

Beyond the screenings, attendees can look forward to an industry luncheon, screenplay readings, live film score performances and a comedy night. The festival will conclude on Oct. 20 with a showcase of award-winning films, where honors will be given in categories such as Best Feature, Best Short, Best Screenplay and Audience Choice.

“When Netflix opened studios in Bushwick, it was a huge moment for our community and filmmakers,” said Kweighbaye Kotee, founder of the Bushwick Film Festival. “Partnering with them this year feels like a natural fit, and we’re excited to work together.”

Nick Maniatis, Netflix’s director of studio and production policy for the U.S. and Canada, echoed the enthusiasm.

“We are thrilled to support the community and local filmmakers at this year's Bushwick Film Festival. We look forward to a fantastic festival that will showcase the creativity and diversity of storytelling in Brooklyn and worldwide," he said.
