FAILE: Savage/Sacred Young Minds is the new exhibit that opens Friday, July 10—October 4, 2015, at the Brooklyn Museum's Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Gallery, 5th Floor.
FAILE is an artistic collaboration between Brooklyn-based artists Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller. It is art that questions society's relationship to consumer culture, religious traditions and the urban environment by blurring the boundaries between fine art, street art and popular culture.
Working together since 1999, McNeil and Miller have produced paintings, sculptures, multimedia installations and outdoor projects. The name FAILE is an anagram for "a life," reflecting the artists' spirt of experimentation.
On display at the Brooklyn Museum exhibit are multimedia installations, large-scale paintings, and sculptures that appropriate imagery from a wide variety of sources. The exhibition includes The FAILE & BÄST Deluxx Fluxx Arcade, created in collaboration with Brooklyn artist Bäst that includes free video games, pinball machines and foosball tables. Also on view is FAILE's Temple, a life-size structure reminiscent of a ruined religious temple-- a reaction against commercial development and consumer greed.
