The New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) on Nov. 1 unveiled a new building on the 36-acre Bush Terminal Campus in Sunset Park, a rebranding of its northern section now called MADE Bush Terminal.
The new name reflects the campus's focus on fostering collaboration among Manufacturers, Artisans, Designers and Entrepreneurs, aligning with the city’s vision for expanding manufacturing and business activity along the Sunset Park waterfront, according to a press release.
The NYC EDC aims to develop new, leasable space for growing industries while providing a resilient public space for the community, in line with Mayor Eric Adams' vision of a Harbor of the Future, revitalizing Brooklyn's waterfront with sustainable development and world-class manufacturing infrastructure.
The MADE Bush Terminal campus has four primary buildings namely: A, B, C and D, the EDC said.
Building A, which is set to open later this year, will offer 140,000 square feet of leasable space for innovative manufacturing, as well as 30,000 square feet of public gathering and event space. The surrounding public realm will span five acres, creating a vibrant environment for work and recreation. The EDC estimates that the opening of Building A will generate over 165 permanent full-time jobs and an economic impact of $2.6 billion over the next 30 years.
The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget recently approved $98.7 million in capital funding for the full renovation of Building C, which, on completion, will offer 155,000 square feet of space for light industrial use and public amenities.
First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer commended the redevelopment and lauded it as a pivotal step toward creating modern industrial spaces along New York City’s waterfront.
The project will also include a revitalization of Pier 6 at the campus set to begin in early 2025.
Local artists Ji Yong Kim and Yukiko Izumi will create three external murals on Building A, reflecting designs drawn from community workshops. These murals will mark the beginning of a series of public art installations and community events.
The southern portion of the Bush Terminal campus will remain known as the Made in New York (MiNY) Campus, which will soon house the expansion of Steiner Studios, supporting over 2,200 jobs in the film and television industry.
“This project is an opportunity to create space for homegrown businesses and bring good jobs to Sunset Park,” said state Senator Andrew Gounardes.
