New York City Comptroller Brad Lander on Tuesday launched a new online dashboard that will measure the effectiveness of service delivery by city agencies.
The tool, called Measuring NYC Government Performance, aggregates data from the Mayor’s Management Report and other City agency sources, offering a clear, data-backed view of whether city services have improved, declined, or remained steady, according to a press release.
“We can’t manage what we don’t measure,” Lander said. “From emergency response times, to proficiency in reading and math, to how many new homes are being built, to how clean the streets are, New Yorkers deserve transparent metrics about how well — or how poorly — city agencies are delivering the services they need.”
Key performance indicators from the dashboard provide a mixed view of agency performance. Notably, the Department of Buildings (DOB) saw a significant drop in certificates of occupancy issued, down 38% this year compared to last, and a 90% decline since 2019.
Conversely, the Department of Design and Construction (DDC) improved, with on-time design and construction projects reaching 89% and 91% completion rates, respectively, marking the highest in five years, according to the press release.
The dashboard is available on the Comptroller’s website, offering New Yorkers insight into the performance of city agencies.
