ICE Field Offices Now Have a Quota as Officials Target a Man in The Bronx

The quota was implemented because President Donald Trump has been disappointed with deportation action so far, the Washington Post reported. Meanwhile, ICE agents arrested an individual in the Bronx Tuesday morning.

President Donald Trump's plan for deporting illegal criminal immigrants now has a quota- federal officials were instructed to make 75 arrests per day, according to The Washington Post.

Every U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement field house, including one each in New York City and New Jersey, now must meet this target, which was handed down on Saturday, the paper said.

So far New York City has seen little arrests, but Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was with federal agents in the Bronx Tuesday to reportedly arrest a Venezuelan gang member and others, ABC News 7 New York reported.

Mayor Eric Adams said the individual in custody was connected to multiple violent crimes in New York and Aurora, Colo.

“Early this morning — as it regularly does as part of a multi-agency task force — our city coordinated with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on a federal criminal investigation involving a suspect hiding in New York City. Beforehand, I directed the NYPD to coordinate with DHS’ Homeland Security Investigations and other federal law enforcement agencies — as allowed by law — to conduct a targeted operation to arrest an individual connected with multiple violent crimes, both here in New York and in Aurora, Colorado, including burglary, kidnapping, extortion, firearms possession, menacing with a firearm, crime of violence and other charges. As I have repeatedly said, we will not hesitate to partner with federal authorities to bring violent criminals to justice — just as we have done for years. Our commitment to protecting our city’s law-abiding residents, both citizens and immigrants, remains unwavering," he said in a statement.

In the NYC-metropolitan area, immigrants have been picked up in New Jersey, including during a raid at a seafood distributor in Newark. ICE officials were also seen in West New York, Paterson and Asbury Park, N.J., local media have reported.

The quotas were implemented because Trump has been disappointed with ICE enforcement actions thus far, according to the newspaper. Managers would be “held accountable” for missing targets, sparking concern that enforcement officers would arrest immigrants who are not criminals to meet their quotas, the paper said.
