The New York City Department of Environmental Protection is hosting an event on Tuesday, Oct. 1 for residents of East New York to talk about its flood mitigation plans.
The DEP's Cloudburst Hub Open House will run from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the New Lots Library, located at 665 New Lots Ave., according to a press release.
A cloudburst is a sudden, heavy downpour where a lot rain falls in a short amount of time. Cloudburst hubs feature a network of stormwater management tools that work together to alleviate flooding, and help to make neighborhoods more resilient during intense rainstorms, according to the agency.

DEP officials will present ideas and would like to receive feedback from the community as to what type of solutions they think would best serve their neighborhood.
"As climate change brings more extreme weather and flooding to our area DEP is hard at work to develop solutions to protect residents, businesses and property - but we want to hear from residents who know best what will work in their neighborhood," said DEP Commissioner Rohit T. Aggarwala. "We hope the East New York community will join us on October 1 at the New Lots Library to hear from our experts - and provide their feedback - on plans being developed to combat flooding."
This event will include several interactive stations where participants can learn about proposed flooding management techniques and provide feedback on open space options in the East New York Cloudburst Hub. Free giveaways will be provided for all participants.
