Crime is up in East Flatbush, but down in Flatbush and Brooklyn as a whole.
There has been a 15% reduction in crime reported to Flatbush's 70th Precinct and a 15% increase reported to East Flatbush's 67th Precinct during the week March 8 to March 14 compared to the same period last year.
Across the two precincts, there have been 59 incidents reported, including one murder reported to the 70th Precinct, and reports of robbery, felony assault, burglary, grand larceny and grand larceny auto to both precincts.
During the same period last year, there were 58 incidents reported across the two precincts, including 20 incidents of robbery and 20 of grand larceny auto.
There have been two murders and 11 rapes reported this year in the neighborhood, compared with one murder and 19 rapes reported by the same date in 2020.
Looking at the 28-day cycle, there has been a 9.5% reduction in incident reports at the 70th Precinct and 14.7% reduction at the 67th Precinct this year on last.
The most common incidents reported over the week-long period were felony assault and grand larceny, with 16 reports of felony assault and 23 of grand larceny. That is four less felony assaults and three less reports of grand larceny than the same period last year.
On March 15, the 70th Precinct tweeted a photo of a gun one of the precinct's public safety teams had recovered, and a day earlier the 67th Precinct tweeted a similar photo of a recovered gun.

Across the borough, there have been 457 incidents reported between March 8 and March 14, according to NYPD's CompStat, including two murders in Brooklyn South and two murders in Brooklyn North. There were five reported rapes across Brooklyn, 60 robberies and 128 felony assaults.
Between March 8 and March 14, there were 349 violent crimes reported, 674 property crimes and 39 sex crimes. Data collected by NYPD shows violent crimes in the borough typically occur between 4pm and 5am and high time for property crimes is between 10am and 10pm.

This week, a 47-year-old man was stabbed in the neck on a Brooklyn bus in an unprovoked attack. The was chatting on his cellphone as he rode a B46 bus toward the corner of Sterling Place and Utica Ave. in Crown Heights around 5:20 p.m. on March 5 when a bald man came up and started talking to him. The man was treated at Kings County Hospital for a minor wound.
Steven Horn, 61, was arrested for stabbing a dog that bounded up to him at Fort Greene on Feb. 20, and has been charged with animal cruelty, weapon possession and other offenses that left the dog with a deep shoulder wound.
Two people were shot while standing in line at Pitkin Seafood in Brownsville on Monday night. A 28-year-old man was shot in the foot and a 53-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet on her right arm after an unknown man fired five shots from outside the restaurant.
57-year-old Queens man Joseph Moore was found dead on the sidewalk at Linden Boulevard and Linwood St in Brooklyn on March 9 and another man has gone on a shopping spree with Moore's credit card. It is unclear how the man came to be in possession of Moore's card. The police have released surveillance footage of the man in hopes of receiving information.
