The Clarendon Library in Flatbush reopened on Monday ahead of schedule, after an extensive renovation that had left many residents without a local library.
New York City Council Member Farah N. Louis joined the Brooklyn Public Library and other stakeholders for the official reopening ceremony, according to a press release.
Louis attributed the speedy renovation to collaboration with the Brooklyn Public Library and the NYC Department of Design and Construction. She said the library was a "lifeline for literacy programs, educational workshops, and a safe space for growth."
The newly renovated facility boasts a new HVAC and fire alarm system, new furniture, updated information desk and checkout area. The building’s exterior was also upgraded with new seating, planting beds, lighting, power and a custom wood book drop, allowing patrons to return books at any time of day.
