Brooklyn Teen Faces Charges For Dog Theft

The 16-year-old Sheffield Avenue resident was indicted for petit larceny, criminal possession of a weapon, and more.

A Brooklyn teen was arrested by police after stealing a dog at gunpoint on Christmas day, according to the Queens District Attorney's office.

The 16-year-old Sheffield Avenue resident was indicted for petit larceny, criminal possession of a weapon, second degree menacing, and criminal possession of stolen property, among other charges, according to a statement released by district attorney Melinda Katz.

The Brooklyn youth approached a 15-year-old boy, who was walking his French Bulldog at 9 a.m. on Christmas day in Long Island City, Queens.

The teen pointed a gun at the dog owner and ordered him to flee the scene within five seconds. The Queens resident complied after dropping his dog’s leash.

Following the incident, the dog owner contacted the police, who later tracked down the Brooklyn resident.

An NYPD officer witnessed the teen — who was reportedly in possession of the stolen pooch at the time — tossing away a 9 mm firearm over a fence. The gun was later recovered by police officials.

After the teen's arrest, the bulldog was safely returned to its owner, Katz said.

“Pulling a gun in broad daylight to steal a dog and then casually taking the animal for a stroll is a kind of dangerous brazenness we will not tolerate under any circumstance,” said Katz.
