Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso on Tuesday appointed Mike Racioppo, District Manager of Brooklyn Community Board 6, to the New York City Council’s Charter Review Commission.

Racioppo, a Brooklyn native with over a decade of experience in government and public policy, will serve on the 17-member commission tasked with reviewing and amending the city’s governing document, according to a press release.

“Mike Racioppo loves this city, understands how it works, and knows how to make it better. He’s the right person for one of the most important jobs: amending the governing document of the greatest city in the world,” said Reynoso. “As an appointee to the Charter Review Commission, he will bring to the table his expertise on comprehensive planning and community board reform – two priorities we share."

Racioppo, who has long been involved in Brooklyn’s public sector, brings a wealth of experience to the commission. Prior to his current role, he served as chief of staff in both the New York City Council and New York State Assembly. He also taught Political Science at Brooklyn College and has been deeply involved in community efforts in Brooklyn.

Since 2018, Racioppo has served as District Manager for CB6, where he has earned praise for his emphasis on community engagement and transparency. His focus on outreach has been instrumental in increasing public participation in major city-wide initiatives like the Gowanus Neighborhood Rezoning and City of Yes.

Racioppo’s commitment to communication is evident in his daily newsletter, which he sent out for 800 consecutive weekdays between 2018 and 2021. Under his leadership, Brooklyn CB6 was recognized in 2024 by the Citizens Budget Commission and The New York Times as New York City’s happiest community district.

“Being appointed by the president of the best borough makes it even more of an honor for a lifelong Brooklynite such as myself," Racioppo said. "I look forward to working with the other members of the Commission to enhance the Charter and improve how the government works and plans."
