New York City Mayor Eric Adams said funding will be restored for the city's sanitation, parks, and education departments, reversing an earlier decision to slash city services as costs dealing with asylum seekers strained the budget.
Adams on Friday said he would restore $10 million in funding for New York City Department of Education (DOE) community schools and fully fund the popular Summer Rising program.
For the Department of Sanitation, there will be money to maintain 23,000 DSNY litter baskets and allow the department to continue installing its Litter Basket of the Future to combat rats, the mayor said earlier this week.
In addition, the mayor said funding will be permanently restored for the Parks Opportunity Program (POP), which gives thousands of low-income New Yorkers six-month paid opportunities and training programs each year.
This is the third time this week that the mayor reversed earlier decisions to cut the budget. The preliminary fiscal 2025 year budget will be announced on Tuesday.
