State Senator Simcha Felder will once again be a City Council member after winning a special election on Tuesday to fill a vacant seat in Brooklyn's District 44.
Felder, a conservative Democrat, locked in over 80% of the vote (4,479) versus his opponent Heshy Tischler, who notched 949 votes after running under a Republican "Team Trump" party line, according to the preliminary results from the New York City Board of Elections.
Felder, who was a City Council Member between 2002- 2010, is currently representing the 22nd district in the New York State Senate. The council seat for District 44, which covers parts of Gravesend, Sunset Park, Borough Park, Mapleton, Midwood and Homecrest, was empty after former Council Member Kalman Yeger won the state assembly seat in November 2024.
