The cakemobiles will be offering free cupcakes, family programs, and a selection of curated books to library card holders

On Saturday, July 30, 2022, the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) will be celebrating its 125th birthday by converting its bookmobiles into cupcake-distributing “cakemobiles” for the day.

The Brooklyn Public Library says that these newly-transformed cakemobiles will be handing out 2000 free cupcakes total—one cupcake per person, and while supplies last—as well as hosting family programs for Brooklyn Public Library card holders.

Alongside of the free treats, the cakemobiles will also be offering visitors a selection of the “125 most quintessential Brooklyn books of all time”, which the Brooklyn Public Library says is a librarian-curated list of literary works. Each book “capture[s] the spirit of Brooklyn.”

The Library's cakemobiles will be paying a visit to six different locations throughout the borough.

The cakemobiles will be visiting Red Hook Park, Homecrest Playground, and Linden Park from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A little later on in the day, the cakemobiles will then be setting up at Herbert Von King Park, Seth Low Playground at Bealin Square, and Hillel Place Plaza from 2 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Because the cakemobile event is for BPL card owners, the Library says that anyone who does not have a library card are able to sign up for one in a couple of ways.

The Library recommends either signing up, in-person, at one of the cakemobile locations on the day of the event, or by filling out an online application here.
