Services for the UnderServed (S:US) received $75,000 from State Senator Julia Salazar to fund the improvements at the Bushwick home for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Salazar conducted an oversight of the facility at 999 Bushwick Ave. on Tuesday to assess the impact of the planned renovations, including the installation of a new ADA-compliant ramp, an extended side entrance and bathroom, according to a press release.
The organization employs 1,800 staff and spends $275 million annually on housing, wellness and supportive services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and providing medical, nursing, psychological, nutritional and employment services.
“New York State has a duty to foster healthy and spacious neighborhoods. I’m honored to present this check to the Services for the Underserved’s leadership, whose dedication to providing our neighbors at 999 Bushwick the agency to live with more independence will contribute immense value to our communities,” said Salazar.
Monica Santos, the organization's chief program officer commended the senator's efforts to ensure that the facility is well-equipped to ensure the well-being and comfort of the community's most vulnerable residents.
"These renovations support our goal of fostering independence and dignity for all residents. The enhanced accessibility features allow our residents to move more freely and safely throughout their home," she said.
