Raise money for the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) and get fit while doing it! Longtime library supporter and Brooklyn resident, Peter Goldwasser, is organizing both a half-marathon and 5K fundraiser for runners in support of the BPL.
This year, libraries are facing budget cuts that could force them to further reduce their hours — limiting access for countless New Yorkers who rely on the library for everything from job training, to free Wi-Fi, to after-school homework help, and immigrant services, according to a news release.
To combat these cuts, the Browse the Branches: Fundraising Run hopes to recruit 62 runners (one representing each of the 62 library branches in Brooklyn) who will each raise approximately $800 for a total fundraising goal of $50,000.
The run will have two course options, a half-marathon and a 5K. The course will run from the northernmost library branch in Greenpoint to the southernmost library branch in Coney Island and will take place Saturday, May 11.
To-date, 18 runners have signed-up. Become a fundraiser or donate here.
