New York families can now register for the Fresh Air Fund's free summer programs, including sleepaway camps in New York’s Mid-Hudson Valley or the Friendly Towns program, where kids visit volunteer host families along the East Coast.

The Fresh Air campers program lets kids ages 8 to 15 explore the outdoors, while having fun and learning new skills, according to a news release.

Five of the Fund’s sleepaway camps are located in Fishkill, New York on more than 2,000 acres of wilderness property. Campers enjoy swimming, playing sports, music classes and arts and crafts.

Through the Friendly Towns program, New York City children, ages 8 to 14, visit volunteer host families for one week. Many children return to the same family each summer, forming special friendships and gaining new perspectives.

A Fresh Air visit to a volunteer host family is full of fun experiences like playing in the backyard, riding bicycles, swimming, catching fireflies and gazing at the stars. Volunteer host families live in small towns, suburban and rural communities along the East Coast. Every host family goes through a rigorous screening process including a home visit, background check, interview and reference check.
