Brooklyn College students aiming for medical careers now have a new fast-track pathway to the St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, thanks to a partnership between the two institutions.

Under the “4+4” program, Brooklyn College students who complete a pre-medical program with a minimum GPA of 3.4 and a competitive MCAT score will qualify for direct entry into SGU’s four-year medical school, according to a press release.

The partnership will streamline the transition from undergraduate to medical school for aspiring doctors and includes an option for students to apply when they enter Brooklyn College or within their first two years of study.

“We are excited to expand our offerings to students interested in studying medicine to the St. George’s University School of Medicine,” said April Bedford, Brooklyn College’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “The strong foundation students receive in our pre-medical program will prepare them well for the next step in their educational journey and careers in healthcare.”

Brooklyn College students can choose to complete the basic sciences portion of their medical education entirely at SGU’s Grenada campus, or they may opt to spend the first year at Northumbria University in the U.K. before transitioning to clinical rotations. SGU’s clinical network includes more than 75 hospitals and health systems across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., allowing students a diverse range of practical experiences.

“St. George’s University is delighted to offer this new opportunity for aspiring doctors from Brooklyn College to pursue degrees in medicine with us,” said Dr. Marios Loukas, dean of St. George’s University School of Medicine. “SGU has a long-standing relationship with New York City, home to many of our students and alumni, and we are pleased to create an additional pathway for New York students to enter the medical profession.”

The collaboration also provides eligible students the chance to apply for SGU scholarships and grants, including the CityDoctors scholarship for New York City high school graduates committed to returning to New York to practice medicine. In the 2022–23 academic year, SGU awarded over $50 million in scholarships.
