Assemblymember Phara Souffrant Forrest is accepting applications for the second annual Bklyn ROOTS (Residents Organizing for Opportunities, Transformation, and Solidarity) cohort.

Bklyn ROOTS is a series of training sessions designed to help residents of Assembly District 57 in Brooklyn, which consists of the neighborhoods of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill as well as parts of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights, develop and build the skills important for becoming strong community leaders, according to a news release.

All interested residents of AD57 are encouraged to apply, whether they are a veteran community leader or just getting interested in organizing. The sessions aim to help all participants sharpen their skills as well as develop relationships with each other and with the Assemblymember's office.

Over the course of four sessions, Bklyn ROOTS will cover topics including organizing, relationship-building, power mapping, state government and adding local context to national issues.

The training sessions are free and open to anyone with a connection to AD57. Food and childcare will be provided.

The training will take place September 14, 21, 28 and October 5, from 10am to 2pm, at the St. Mary's Episcopal Church at 230 Classon Ave. Participants are expected to attend all four sessions.

Interested applicants should apply by August 30, at bit.ly/BKROOTS24
