The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) inaugurated the "New York Proud" immgrant photo exhibition, current on view in Times Square and in Downtown Brooklyn.
This public art initiative is in partnership with Photoville and is designed to celebrate the rich and diverse contributions of immigrants throughout New York City, according to a press release.
The photos can be seen at The Plaza at 300 Ashland, as a co-presentation with the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, from now through Sept. 16.
The "New York Proud" campaign features a photo series that showcases the personal journeys of immigrant New Yorkers. Over 200 portraits will be displayed across subway platforms and public spaces throughout the city, offering a powerful visual narrative of the immigrant experience in New York.
These exhibitions will provide a deeper insight into the lives of the featured individuals and will be available to the public throughout September and October, the press release said.
"New York Proud" is a collaborative effort involving the NYIC, FYEye, The Opportunity Agenda, Photoville, Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, Times Square Alliance and Two Trees Management.
The NYIC, an organization that represents over 200 immigrant and refugee rights groups across New York, has been a leading advocate for immigrant communities since its founding in 1987. Through this campaign, the NYIC continues to uplift and protect the rights of one of the nation’s most diverse populations, fostering collective action and positive social change.
