Foundation, an educational initiative will offer a free mentorship program for New York City students at the Powerhouse Arts building in Gowanus.

New York City students between the age of 13 and 16 are encouraged to apply to a free mentorship program through Foundation, a new educational initiative founded by members of Brooklyn's tech community.

Michael Ioffe, the co-founder of Arist, an AI employee training company, and Ibbi Hashme, who worked in the engineering department at software company Lunchclub, said they will offer weekly sessions to mentor the borough's youngest tech entrepreneurs, according to a press release.

The initiative is supported by members of the city’s entrepreneurial and creative communities and aims to foster innovation and creativity in youths by providing them with the tools to turn their artistic and creative ideas into real projects, the press release said.

Foundation will host weekly sessions every Sunday from 2:00pm to 8:00pm at Powerhouse Arts in Gowanus starting Dec 8. They will include engagements with mentors from various industries including business, design and technology and talks from guest speakers from various fields.

“We want to give young people the tools and support to bring their ideas to life,” said Ioffe, who is a Thiel Fellow.

Applications are open for the inaugural group of participants until Nov. 17. For questions, email: [email protected].
