Developer Two Trees Management on Monday opened Domino Square, a one-acre public plaza and events space in Williamsburg.

The new space is part of the broader Domino Sugar redevelopment and serves as an extension of Domino Park, a popular waterfront esplanade that has attracted millions of visitors since opening in 2018, according to a press release.

Designed by landscape architecture firm Field Operations, in collaboration with Brooklyn-based Studio Cadena, Domino Square is located between Two Trees' residential development, One Domino Square, and its office space, The Refinery.

The plaza is intended to enhance the community by providing a flexible outdoor area for a variety of public events and activities, the press release said.

Domino Square will host large-scale community events such as farmers' markets, neighborhood school graduations and salsa nights. It will also feature Williamsburg's first waterfront ice skating rink, set to open in November.

“From the moment we bought Domino, we have been focused on creating one of the most highly utilized and diverse open spaces in all of Brooklyn,” said Jed Walentas, principal at Two Trees Management. “With the opening of the Square, we will be able to accommodate a broader array of activities that will attract neighbors from all walks of life.”

The plaza spans a full city block and features distinctive landscaping, tiered seating and a "theater-in-the-round" effect. Its design also highlights views of the Williamsburg Bridge and the iconic Domino refinery.
