St. Paul Community Baptist Church in East New York celebrated 97 years of ministry on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, with a landmark service that honored its legacy and set the stage for continued impact in the community.
The service featured a powerful sermon from Rev. Al Sharpton, who challenged and uplifted the congregation with a message of justice, unity and faith, according to a press release.
NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams presented the church with a proclamation recognizing its long-standing work and the significance of its Maafa commemoration, an annual observance that honors the history and resilience of African descendants.
A highlight of the day was the church’s spiritual growth, where 22 new members were officially welcomed through the right hand of fellowship. In addition, 16 individuals were baptized and six people joined by Christian experience, reflecting the church’s ongoing commitment to fostering faith and community engagement.
Lead Pastor Rev. Dr. David Brawley expressed deep gratitude.
“Our 97th anniversary is not just about looking back on our history but about moving forward with a vision for justice, love, and faith that touches every part of our community," he said.
