The city's newest all-inclusive playground made its debt on Tuesday in Homecrest, Brooklyn.
NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue, New York State Senator Simcha Felder and community members celebrated the grand reopening of Kelly Park Playground following a $10 million renovation focused on ADA accessibility, according to a press release.
The major improvements at the facility, named after Brooklyn native William E. Kelly, a former postmaster and Clerk of Kings County, Kelly Park Playground is set to become one of New York's most inclusive spaces.
"Thanks to this transformational project, Brooklynites of all ages and abilities can enjoy a beautifully renovated play space with something for everyone,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue. “All New Yorkers deserve engaging and well-maintained public parks."
The renovation included the construction of several features and play equipment for children of all abilities, reflecting the city’s ongoing commitment to creating inclusive and engaging public spaces.
The revamped playground includes spray showers, slides, and a sandbox with “fossils,” designed to stimulate the imagination and promote collaborative play.
“This $10 million investment isn't just about creating a beautiful space—it's about creating a sense of belonging for every child in Brooklyn. Today, we celebrate a dream park for all children,” said Felder.
