The Brooklyn Museum is hitting pause on planned layoffs after the city confirmed an additional $100,000 in funding for the current fiscal year, according to Hyperallergic.
Of the 47 full- and part-time workers expected to be cut, at least five staffers who did not have union representation were given a layoff notice in February, and 27 unionized workers accepted voluntary buyouts last week, the publication reported.
“However, we continue to await confirmation of the promised additional funding for next fiscal year,” Brooklyn Museum Director Anne Pasternak warned in an email to staff on Monday, which was reviewed by Hyperallergic.
If that city money does not materialize, Pasternak said, the museum “will unfortunately need to move ahead with the previously planned reductions by June 30, 2025.”
