Brooklyn resident Vladimir Sats, a World War II veteran and Holocaust survivor, celebrated his 100th birthday on Sept. 27.
Assemblyman William Colton and City Council Member Susan Zhuang joined Sats at the Edith and Carl Marks Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst to honor him during a Rosh Hashanah party, according to a press release.
The celebration, hosted by the Holocaust Survivors Center, recognized Sats for his incredible resilience and contributions. Both elected officials praised the centenarian for overcoming immense hardships and symbolizing the strength of the human spirit.
“I was privileged to join in the festivities marking Mr. Sats’s 100th birthday,” said Colton. “This is such an important milestone, made even more significant because of the unimaginable difficulties he endured as a young man. Mr. Sats truly embodies the strength of the human spirit.”
Council Member Zhuang echoed Colton’s sentiments.
“It is very meaningful to mark any person’s 100th birthday,” she said. “Even more so when that person has come through so much, as Mr. Sats has. He is truly a community treasure.”
The event celebrated both Sats’s century of life and his enduring legacy within the Brooklyn community.
