The Bed-Stuy Gateway Business Improvement District brought holiday cheer on Dec. 16 to the heart of Brooklyn with a community-wide Christmas extravaganza, featuring its 5th Annual Winter Wonderland Holiday Marketplace and a dazzling tree lighting ceremony.

The festivities kicked off at Restoration Plaza with Executive Director Dale Charles, also known as Mrs. Claus, and Event Director Marlon Rice leading the celebration, according to a press release.

Attendees enjoyed performances by the Brooklyn United marching band and gospel artist Alex Sayles, with DJ Barry Blendz providing a lively soundtrack for the evening.

“We are truly thankful to Wells Fargo for their unwavering commitment to our community, and the Winter Wonderland event” said Bed-Stuy Gateway BID Vice-Chair Marcia Melendez, who joined Mr. and Mrs. Claus for the official countdown. “Without their support, this event could not have been possible.”

A special sleigh ride was coordinated through a collaboration with the NYPD's 79th Precinct and Brooklyn North, and a borough-wide caravan of costumed characters and city officials distributing gifts to children.

“The cheers and looks on the kids’ faces were mesmerizing,” said Charles.

Since its founding in 2009, the Bed-Stuy Gateway BID has served as a cornerstone of Brooklyn’s cultural and commercial life, supporting economic development and celebrating the area’s diversity. The Winter Wonderland event is one of many initiatives aimed at fostering a vibrant and inclusive community.
