The Week Ahead: Nelson George, 79th Pct Meets and a Chance of Snow

2. We're now officially in spring, but the cold and snow haven't yet left. At least 1 inch of snow is predicted for Tuesday. Cold temperatures continue through Wednesday and then begin to slow inch up. Spring-like weather should be back around by next weekend!

3. On Wednesday, March 26, at 10:00am, the public is cordially invited to the Restoration Plaza Lobby for the Shirley Chisholm Forever Stamp Celebration. Restoration Plaza is located at 1368 Fulton Street.

On Wednesday, March 26, at 7:00pm, Greenlight Bookstore and Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation present Nelson George at a book signing for The Hippest Trip in America: Soul Train and the Evolution of Culture & Style. George talks at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration with Tyrone Proctor, one of the original Soul Train dancers, about the show's legacy. The event is introduced by beloved award-winning actor Rosie Perez, author of the recent memoir Handbook for an Unpredictable Life — as a friend of Nelson George and a former Soul Train dancer herself, Perez brings warmth and perspective to the discussion. 5. The 79th Pct. Community Council will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 26, at the Job Corps Center, located at 585 Dekalb Avenue 2nd Floor at 7:00pm.

Robert Cornegy, Jr., chair of the small business committee, and the Bed-Stuy Gateway Business Improvement District invites the public to a Town Hall Meeting for Small Businesses on Thursday, March 27, 8:30am — 10:30am, in the Restoration Community Room, basement level, located at 1368 Fulton Street.

7. The Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College, kicks off this week the Twelfth National Black Writers Conference (NBWC) to be held on the Brooklyn campus from Thursday, March 27 through Sunday, March 30, 2014. Honorees of the 2014 NBWC include Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott; best-selling author Walter Mosley; author and poet Quincy Troupe; French-Caribbean writer Maryse Conde; and posthumously to Margaret Burroughs, co-founder of the DuSable Museum of African American History.  For more information and a schedule lineup, go here.
