Brooklyn Community Pride Center announced that it will be hosting its first LGBTQ+ Older Adults Prom on Wednesday, May 15.

In recognition of LGBTQ Elders Day, the nonprofit said they are celebrating community members aged 50+ and their guests with an evening of music, food and dancing, according to a news release.

"Our LGBTQ+ Older Adults Prom is more than just a dance; it's a tribute to queer and trans elders who paved the way for us," said Omari Scott, the director of development and communications at the Brooklyn Community Pride Center. "As we mark Honor LGBTQ+ Elders Day, we're honored to provide an opportunity many didn't have in their youth—a chance to relive moments of joy, acceptance and belonging."

The event symbolizes the nonprofits's commitment to uplifting elders and ensuring they know they're valued and cherished members of our community, Scott said.

Suggested price is $10 per person or $15 per couple, although no one will be turned away for inability to pay, the nonprofit said. Doors open at 5pm for the prom that will be held at the Betty Carter Auditorium at Major Owners Center at 1561 Bedford Ave. For more information, click here.
