A 5-year-old boy struck by a car and fatally injured Sunday evening in Crown Heights.
The accident occurred on Empire Boulevard between Nostrand and Rogers avenues, at around 9:00pm., according to police.
The child was rushed to Kings County Hospital where he was announced dead.
The accident is currently under investigation by the NYPD Highway Accident Investigation Unit.
Update: 3/17, 9:00am: According to 71st Pct. Police, the driver who hit the 5-yr-old boy was backing up out of a space where she was double-parked.
A passerby who witnessed the accident chased the car down for the license plate number and reported the driver. Cops picked the woman up some hours later.
It has not yet been determined whether she was aware she hit the boy at the time, police said. But she was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident. The investigation is ongoing.
